Research and/or Clinical Interests

The goal of Dr. Lara Davis’s research is to improve outcomes for patients with sarcoma by testing novel, rational, targeted drug combinations and ensuring that we gain detailed insight into tumors’ response to treatment. Dr. Davis has led multiple investigator-initiated, industry and cooperative group sarcoma clinical trials. This clinical research often dovetails with translational projects addressing clinical questions using trial participant specimens and patient-derived or cell line in vitro and in vivo models. Although balancing the rigors of both clinical and translational research is challenging, she has established a successful career through a passion for developing and testing scientifically-sound treatment regimens that provide hope for sarcoma patients.

Towards that goal, she co-led a SARC multi-institutional, randomized, Phase 2 clinical trial of targeted therapy for advanced osteosarcoma, which led to publication in JCO and inclusion in NCCN guidelines; the follow up Phase 2 trial of combination targeted and immune therapy completed accrual and results will be published shortly. She also led a clinical trial of a novel drug combination to treat metastatic soft tissue sarcomas based on my laboratory work. In recognition of her accomplishments in clinical research, Dr. Davis was awarded a Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award from the National Cancer Institute (2019-2021). Her precision oncology translational work in sarcoma was supported by substantial career development awards from SARC (2016-2018) and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation (2019-2022).

Further, she is an experienced administrative leader. She was Co-Leader of Oregon Health & Science University’s Knight Cancer Institute Translational Oncology Research Program 2020-2025. She is Chair of the SWOG NCTN Early Therapeutics / Rare Cancers Committee Sarcoma Working Group and Chair of the NCI’s Sarcoma Steering Committee. As of January 2026, Dr. Davis is Sarcoma Program Head and Anderson Family Endowed Chair in Sarcoma at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
