Research and/or clinical interests
Dr. Yang’s primary research is understanding the redox mechanisms that promote thrombosis. Specifically, his interest is in oxidative cysteine modification and how they participate in the thrombotic machinery. In this context the Yang laboratory employs a technical tour-de-force of chemical biology, protein biochemistry, and real-time intravital imaging to unravel the mechanisms.
Dr. Yang also investigates a family of enzymes called thiol isomerases that function to make and break disulfides during protein folding. These enzymes escape into the blood stream and play a critical role in clot formation. The Yang laboratory seeks to understand the mechanisms of how thiol isomerases promote thrombus formation in oxidative stress.
